This CD is original music recorded on primitive instruments made by Jack Martin. He has made and played drums since the 1950's and has studied primitive rhythms around the world. He plays stringed instruments, lyres, as well as mbiras, the African thumb piano, and the baliphone. Jack composes a song on a specific instrument and then asks friends to collaborate with him. Thomas Schubel improvises guitar with Jack's lyre. Mike Lessing fills in drums and percussion. Saul Rayo plays guitar, bass, and drums. Elena Powell offers vocals and violin. At times Lou Meyer will play keyboard. The strings have unique tunings and the rhythms are complicated which results in rich textures forcing the imagination to travel to exotic places. Also featured on this CD are the rhythms recorded in Tobago of the shango drummer Wayne de Guerra this year when Jack and Sally traveled to Trinidad/Tobago.
